A course designed for parents, teachers, school leaders and administrators, all adults interested into child's development.
It provides concepts and methods in order to support all children aged 3 to 6 into gaining autonomy, freedom and discipline, whether at home or at school.

Goals of the Course

  • For parents : discover about true Montessori education, how to respect your child's own rhythm of development, prepare your children for becoming autonomous and responsible leaders.

  • For professionals : become able assistants in a Montessori Children's House, learn how to support and help the classroom director/directress maintain equilibrium within the class, how to observe, when and how to intervene and not interfere.

  • For all : gain knowledge of Montessori's understanding of freedom and discipline, acquire the ability to support the development of the child.

  • Introduction to Montessori

  • The Role of the Directress

  • The Role of the Assistant

  • Overview of the Planes of Development

  • The Child's Mind from 0-6 years, Sensitive Periods

  • Order: The importance of Order and Precision, Order in the development of personality

  • Movement 0-6: Development of Movement and its significance for the child

  • Language: Development of, also taking into account the following elements:

  • Preparation of the adult

  • Use of language in general

  • Vocabulary: correct, precise, rich, scientifically exact

  • How to listen to children

  • How to elicit language

  • Independence: Development of, also taking into account different levels of independence - physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual, as conditions for interdependence

  • Prepared environment: Home and Casa dei Bambini (the physical and the intangible)

  • Freedom and Discipline: Understanding the concept of Freedom from Montessori point of view and the growth of Discipline as inner development

  • Social Development

  • Observation and its relevance (technique and recording of)

  • Music and Art

  • Maintaining the environment (indoor and outdoor)

Course Schedule

  • Week 1 : live online lectures

  • Week 2 : live online lectures 

  • Week 3 : observations of children

  • Week 4 : live online lectures / Course ending

Course Duration

  • 35 hours of live online sessions, during a total of 4 weeks.

  • 25 additional hours of independent study.

  • 9 additional hours of mandatory observations.

  • Specific instructions on how to observe will be given during the Course, taking into account the restrictions which may be imposed by Covid 19.

Course Requirements

  • Three essays. Submission of three papers (500 words) on topics set by the Trainer.

  • Observation. 9 hours of observation.

  • Reports and Notes. Submission of observation notes and observation report.

  • Mandatory reading : students need to read books from Maria Montessori "The secret of childhood", "The absorbent mind"and "The child in the family". In order to ease the course preparation, MMTC will order the books on behalf of the students and sell them back to students. 

  • Some additional reading texts will be made available to students during the course.

  • Materials. Submission of handmade materials.

  • Attendance. Minimum of 90% attendance.

  • Overall satisfactory participation in the course. As evaluated by the Course Director.

Enrollment Criteria

  • Course given in English. All course work, including mandatory written assignments, has to be done in English. Students need to have an adequate level of written and spoken English to take the course.

  • Ability to study at a higher academic level. Positive motivation to study and willingness to positively and constructively cooperate with the Course Director and Co-Director and the training center staff.

  • Filled out online application form and payment of required fees.

  • Computer availability and good access to the Internet for the whole time of the course.

  • A quiet place to study.
